Positive Projectmanagement

Tips for ProjectManagers

2019-04-24

Your attitude is contagious.

Choose to be a positive project manager. Your positive thinking will influence project team members, other stakeholders around you.

If you are happy, excited about your project, others will feel and become energised as well. If you believe that problem solving is a simple step in your project, your team members will feel the same, will solve challenges and other stakeholders will trust you and your team.

TIP 1

Choose the Positive

Choosing Positive Attitude require daily efforts...

  1. Consciously look for positive
  2. Express what you see good, grate, awesome... (tell, write, smile, shake hands... find your way)
  3. Appreciate effort, good work, beauty, meaning...
  4. Generate positive - the simplest positive act what I saw: sharing the bar of chocolate among testers in peek testing periods.

Don't take good work granted.

When you find yourself moving away from a positive and joyful attitude, the next two tips can help you stay optimistic.

TIP 2

Look for the Positive

One of the best things you can do to have a positive attitude is to look for the positive in everything.

Even in difficult or challenging situations, you can find something good. Not only will this help you keep a positive attitude, but you will be able to find opportunities that people with a negative attitude aren't able to pick up.

TIP 3

Express Gratitude

Expressing gratitude is one of the most powerful ways to keep a positive attitude.

In Today Matters, by John C. Maxwell, he explains how gratitude is part of a positive cycle that feeds itself...

"Thinking about the good things helps us to be grateful. Remaining grateful helps us to have a more positive attitude. And having a positive attitude prompts us to think about the good rather than the bad."

- John C. Maxwell, Today Matters

As a Project Manager, it is critical to express gratitude and appreciation to your project team members.

If you appreciate their contributions and let them know about it, they will probably contribute even more to your current project and want to work with you on future projects.

Don't take them for granted.

Think about these positive attitude tips day to day.

Recently I had a colleague, who I believed talented, experienced and I want her to work with. Within half a year I realized that my decision to hire her wasn't right. Although I liked her a lot, she had a great humour, experinences, knowledge what I will never have, finally our cooperation didn't work. What was my expectation? What went wrong? What mistakes I made? Hopefully I will find answers and will learn from this experience.

"Bea was a real asset in the coach team. She is a very nice person to work with. She is an excellent professional who does her work with dedication and enthusiasm. She easily communicates with all type of people, creative, pro-active and goal-oriented. For me as an administrative person, it was a pleasure to work with her. Even she was working as a field coach, she did her admin tasks punctually as well."
